Our rating is an opinion, not a measurement. It weighs how easily you reach the door, whether the tenant list is real and checkable, whether prices are marked, how much English is spoken on the floor, and how much of a day the place actually fills.
Centro closed some years ago and its floor has been relet, so any guide still calling it an anchor here is out of date. Matahari is the department store now.
What it actually is
Open since 2004 and the older of the two beachfront malls in Kuta. Less polished than Beachwalk, and priced accordingly.
The terrace is the point
The rear of the building opens onto the sand, and several restaurants sit on that edge. It is the cheapest sunset view in Kuta that comes with a chair.
Surf brands, not fashion
Billabong, Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Hurley and Surfer Girl. If you want Zara, that is Beachwalk a kilometre north; this is the board-short end of the street.
A step cheaper
Mid tier throughout, with Matahari doing the heavy lifting. Families who found Beachwalk expensive tend to end up here.
Walkable from the hotels
Most of Jalan Kartika Plaza and Jalan Pantai Kuta is within walking distance, which removes the parking question entirely.

What is inside
Over 150 tenants, weighted towards surf, casual wear and everyday needs rather than fashion houses.

Who it is right for
It sits a kilometre from Beachwalk and a tier below it, which makes the choice between them straightforward.
Go if you want
- Surf and beachwear The deepest run of surf labels in any Bali mall, which is what this building is actually for.
- A table on the sand The rear terrace restaurants look straight out at the water. Book the sunset, not the shopping.
- Mid-range prices A genuine step cheaper than Beachwalk, with Matahari covering most of what a family needs.
- To arrive on foot Most Kuta hotels are within walking distance, which no other mall on this list can claim.
Go elsewhere if you want
- International fashion Zara, H&M and the rest are at Beachwalk, a kilometre north along the same beach.
- Duty-free None here. T Galleria on the bypass is the only tax-exempt floor in Bali.
- Something new The building is over twenty years old and shows it. Icon Bali in Sanur is the current one.
- Easy parking It fills from the middle of the day. Walk or ride-hail if you have the option.
Discovery Mall questions
Compare the mallsIs this a luxury mall?
No, and it does not present itself as one. The tier is mid-range, anchored by Matahari and a run of surf brands. For luxury, T Galleria and the Seminyak boutiques are the right pages.
Can I get to the beach from inside?
Yes. The rear terrace opens straight onto Pantai Kuta, and several restaurants sit on that edge. It is the mall's single best feature.
How does it compare to Beachwalk?
Same beach, a kilometre apart, one tier down. Beachwalk has the international chains and the newer building; Discovery has surf brands, lower prices and the better terrace.
Is there duty-free here?
No. Everything carries local tax. T Galleria by DFS on the Bypass Ngurah Rai is the only dedicated duty-free floor on the island.
Can I buy Balinese crafts?
Some, in the gift and souvenir shops on the lower level. For range and for anything handmade, Ubud Art Market or Krisna are far better answers.

Two malls and a beach, one afternoon
Beachwalk is a kilometre north and Lippo Mall is between them. Walk all three, then have the car meet you rather than looking for it.
