Our rating is an opinion, not a measurement. It weighs how easily you reach the door, whether the tenant list is real and checkable, whether prices are marked, how much English is spoken on the floor, and how much of a day the place actually fills.

Much of the retail sits below ground level, which is unusual in Bali and worth knowing: it is cooler than the street and harder to orient yourself in.

What it actually is

The third mall on Kartika Plaza and the least glamorous of them, which is exactly why people staying nearby end up using it most.

Partly underground

A large share of the floor sits below street level. Cooler than walking Kuta in the afternoon, and a genuine relief in the wet season.

An everyday mall

Matahari and Hypermart do most of the work. This is where you buy sunscreen, a phone case and dinner, not where you shop for the sake of it.

Walkable from the beach hotels

About 500 metres from Kuta beach, and under twenty minutes on foot from most of Kartika Plaza.

Cinepolis, not XXI

The cinema here rebranded from Cinemaxx to Cinepolis. Guides that still say Cinema XXI are describing a different building.

Sheltered shopping during a Bali downpour
Being mostly enclosed and partly underground makes this the obvious Kuta mall in the wet season.

What is inside

Over a hundred outlets, weighted to Indonesian chains and everyday categories rather than international fashion.

Batik Keris is the one tenant here worth a detour for a visitor: proper Indonesian batik at fixed prices, without the haggling of a market stall.

Phone and gadget units cluster on one level, which is why this is the mall people name when something breaks.

Getting there

Closer to the airport than any other Kuta mall, and close enough to the beach hotels to walk.

Ngurah Rai airport

Drive time
10 to 15 minutes
Notes
About 3 km, the shortest run of any mall here

Kartika Plaza hotels

Drive time
Under 20 minutes
Notes
On foot, and the pavement holds most of the way

Kuta beach

Drive time
About 500 metres
Notes
Walkable, though not in the middle of the day

Seminyak

Drive time
20 to 30 minutes
Notes
Ride-hail quotes the fare before you book

Nusa Dua

Drive time
30 to 45 minutes
Notes
Only worth it if you are passing anyway

Parking is on site, which matters here because Discovery is a few hundred metres away and its parking fills first.

Who it is right for

Three malls sit within a kilometre of each other on this road. This is the useful one rather than the impressive one.

Go if you want

  • Everyday things Hypermart, a pharmacy, phone repair and a department store, all within a short walk of the beach hotels.
  • Shelter Mostly enclosed and partly underground, which makes it the obvious choice in the wet season.
  • A quick airport stop About three kilometres from the terminal, the shortest run of any mall in this guide.
  • Indonesian batik Batik Keris carries proper batik at marked prices, which a market stall will not.

Go elsewhere if you want

  • International fashion Beachwalk is a kilometre away and carries Zara, H&M and the rest. This does not.
  • A view Much of the retail is below ground. Discovery, next door, has the terrace on the sand.
  • A day out An hour or two covers it. Trans Studio in Denpasar is the one built to fill a day.
  • Duty-free None here. T Galleria on the bypass is the only tax-exempt floor in Bali.

Lippo Mall questions

Compare the malls
Is this a high-end mall?

No. It is mid-tier and practical, built around a department store and a supermarket. For designer labels, Seminyak; for duty-free, T Galleria on the bypass.

How far is the airport?

About three kilometres, or ten to fifteen minutes by car. That is the shortest run of any mall in this guide, Park 23 aside.

Which cinema is it?

Cinepolis, which took over from Cinemaxx. Any guide naming Cinema XXI here is describing a different mall.

Can I walk from Kuta beach?

Yes, about 500 metres, though the pavement is uneven in places and the middle of the day is hot enough that most people do not bother.

Is there duty-free?

No. Everything carries local tax. T Galleria by DFS on the Bypass Ngurah Rai is the only dedicated duty-free floor on the island.

Three malls in one walk

Discovery is a few hundred metres away and Beachwalk a kilometre north. Walk the three, then have the car meet you rather than hunting for a space.
